Poetry Analysis Essay
Revised Essay:
Comments from Ms. Batty:
The comments I received on my first poetry analysis essay were very constructive. Along with liking my title, Ms. Batty notices how closely I read the text, which she pointed out, made for very clear points, and an “interesting” thesis statement. When asked to analyze the text from a Formalist/New Historic lens, she first points out my non-binary analysis of the words “father mother” which she found “very insightful.” Despite the insight from my analysis on the challenging of the gender-binary in the text, she pointed out there was still some work to be done on the organization of the paragraphs. For example, when I discuss her use of Spanish, and in the same paragraph started talking about the symbolic use of spacing, and then I continue to talk about her meshing of Spanish and English in the following paragraph. Ms. Batty points out that there were still some sentences that need to be reworded for clarity to my readers. Lastly, I am reminded to only use reputable sources; “Wikipedia won’t do. “ and not to confuse MLA with APA format in my citations.
